Botswana connects rural schools with RNS Solar technology

During 2018 Radio Network Solutions (RNS), in partnership with Mascom, completed an extensive project that now provides internet connectivity to rural schools in Botswana. Mascom contracted RNS to plan and execute the operation.
The RNS Team completed nineteen sites in the Kgalagadi district, of which five were completely off-grid and needed strategic solutions to enable the schools in these remote areas to access the internet. Five of the sites required solar power coupled with Lithium battery technology, while the other co-location sites needed RF Coverage enhancements.
The project was challenging. The RNS Team didn’t have easy access to the sites, not to mention the immense task of getting their equipment on site. “We managed to complete the project successfully, which would not have been possible without our team’s hard work and dedication,” says RNS sales director, Richard Hill. “It is a privilege to complete a project, that not only connects people, but that is utilised towards the education and development of children. This project lies especially close to our hearts as RNS’ own corporate social investment initiatives are aimed at assisting individuals to develop and grow with the aim to empower their futures and careers.”
Kgalagadi district lies in the southwest of Botswana and covers a large part of the Kalahari Desert.
